Chelsea Arts Club: Digital Members Hub

Translating 150 years of prestige into a refined digital experience

The Chelsea Arts Club, founded in 1891, needed a digital presence that matched the exclusivity and cultural significance of its physical location in London's Chelsea neighborhood. Unlike typical membership sites, this platform needed to feel like a natural extension of the Club itself. Refined, editorial, and steeped in artistic heritage. As UI Lead, I created a visually-led interface that serves as both a members' hub and a digital archive of the Club's rich history. The design challenge was balancing contemporary web UX with the Club's traditional aesthetic. The site needed to feel prestigious without appearing dated. I developed an editorial-style layout system centered on high-level typography, generous whitespace, and a modular grid that accommodates diverse content. From event photography and artist profiles to historical archives and club news. Every design decision reinforced the sense of exclusivity members expect from the Chelsea Arts Club.

Digital refinement worthy of the institution

The Chelsea Arts Club website translates the physical club's atmosphere into digital form. The editorial approach to layout creates a browsing experience that feels curated rather than transactional. Appropriate for a members' organisation rather than a commercial site. The modular grid system proved flexible enough to handle everything. Long-form historical content, event calendars, photo galleries. All while maintaining a consistent sense of visual quality. The design respects the Club's heritage while providing members with a thoroughly modern digital experience. Key Outcomes: • Editorial-first layout system reflecting institutional prestige • Flexible modular grid for diverse content types • Typography-led design maintaining brand refinement • Integration of events, news, and archival content • Digital experience befitting 150+ years of cultural significance • Responsive design maintaining quality across all devices
